Paula Danziger

Our dear friend, Paula Danziger passed away on Friday, July 8, 2004.  Paula was a famous children's author, well-known for her Amber Brown series.  She started to attend the SDVs in February 1999 as a research project for a book she was working on about a girl who scrapbooks, now published as "United Tates of America."

She continued to attend the SDVs, working on her book, and never admitting that she loved to scrapbook. She insisted it was only work, but we knew she enjoyed it. She loved scrapbook shopping even more, collecting all the neatest storage containers, and all the latest embellishments. What an organizer she was!  She loved talking with children.  The young people who attended the SDVs adored Paula. She graciously signed autographs whenever someone brought one of her books along, and we even had a book signing for her United Tates book at the 7 Springs SDV. I remember one particular SDV when she hung out with my kids while we were setting up on Thursday night. She played word games with them for hours...making them laugh at the silliest things in that typical "Amber Brown" way.  She was funny, eccentric, opinionated, and unique. I will remember her flowing scarves, big jewelry, custom eyeglasses, her ability to write backwards, and her sultry laugh.  I feel blessed to have known her.  She always asked to sit up front by Dale and I and we would talk to each other from across the aisle. Paula has touched the hearts of many, young and old alike, and she will be missed.  I can hardly imagine never seeing Paula again.  It just won't be the same without her wonderful humor.
